Biography
Dr. Wilburn Whittington is a Research Engineer at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) in the Computational Engineering Mechanics and Materials Science (CEMMS) group. He currently serves the CEMMS group as the High Rate Lab Manager and aids in mechanical experimentation and characterization. Dr. Whittington supervises numerous engineering undergraduate provides K-12 STEM outreach in the areas of mechanical testing and characterization. His Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) high strain rate systems have been deployed at multiple universities in the US and has helped develop the first open source SHPB analysis tool for the dynamic materials community. Dr. Whittington received his PhD from Mississippi State University (MSU) in December of 2015 and has co-authored 21 peer-reviewed journal articles. His research interests are machine design, dynamic experiments, and materials engineering.
